In 1996, the Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation and rejected a worker’s appeal against The Fitzgerald Group. The Court’s decision was dated 19 March 1996. The worker said he had been offered a senior barman position at the Poitin Stil and had left his job at the Clock Tower. The company said the offer depended on satisfactory references. The Court criticised the company’s efforts to contact him and the timing of its checks, but found the offer was null and void because satisfactory reference clearance had not been obtained.
