The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner recommendation of £500 for a worker unfairly dismissed by Messrs David Maurice And Kevin Brophy, trading as Advanced Training Consultants (Ireland) Limited. The decision was signed on 17 January 1996.
The worker began employment on a one-month trial basis and was dismissed after a short period. She said she received no pay and described poor working conditions and abusive language from management. The Rights Commissioner found she had been dismissed without just cause and without fair procedures, and recommended £500 in redress.
The employer did not attend the Rights Commissioner’s hearing and was not represented at the Labour Court hearing. The Court upheld the recommendation, finding it appropriate in view of the very unfair treatment during the worker’s short employment.
