The Labour Court upheld Irish Country Meats Limited’s appeal and left two workers’ final written warnings in place after an unofficial three-hour stoppage at its Carrig plant. The decision was signed on 12 March 1996. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that the warnings were unfair, including because other workers had also taken part. The company said the stoppage disrupted production and breached agreed procedures. The Court found the disciplinary action was not unreasonable, while saying the absenteeism issue should have been addressed more promptly.
