The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation on redundancy terms for three workers at Finsa Forest Products Limited, rejecting an appeal by the Marine Port and General Workers’ Union. The decision was signed on 12 March 1996. The union argued the workers had become part of the permanent workforce and should be retained or offered voluntary redundancy. The company said they had been hired temporarily for construction work and were not part of its permanent workforce. The recommendation was that the union and workers accept redundancy on the company’s settlement terms.
