In 1996, the Labour Court rejected an anonymous worker’s appeal against a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that Dunnes Stores pay her 10 weeks’ net pay at £100 a week for unfair dismissal. The Court found the company had not acted unreasonably in dismissing her and amended the recommendation on 12 January 1996. The worker said illness prevented her attending work on 18 December 1994 and that she had called the company. Dunnes Stores said she had received warnings and was employed for the Christmas season. The Court found the appeal was properly before it despite a late objection from the company.
