In 1995, the Labour Court rejected Delphi Packard Electric Ireland Ltd’s appeal and upheld a recommendation that the company acted unreasonably in laying off a worker contrary to the last-in, first-out principle. The decision was signed on 19 December 1995. The worker was among 20 salaried staff laid off in August. Manufacturing Science Finance argued that longer-serving workers should have been retained and that the worker should have been offered training on another project. The company said the worker’s section had less work and retained staff were better qualified.
