The Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s appeal over a worker’s dismissal from Westport Clothing Company, upholding the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that the dismissal was not unfair. The decision was signed on 25 September 1995. The worker was first dismissed after working in the cutting room. Following union representations, he was re-employed for a 10-week warehouse trial and dismissed again. The union said he had received no training; the company said he had not shown he could do the first job and was unsuitable for the warehouse role too.
