The Labour Court changed the proposed roster for a Great Southern Hotel (Galway) waiter, requiring an 8 a.m. or 8.30 a.m. start, and upheld the rest of the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation, including a £1,500 payment. The decision was signed on 25 September 1995. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union appealed the recommendation concerning the worker’s long-standing split shift. The union said the proposed change would extend his working day by three and a half hours and cause hardship. The hotel argued that flexible rosters were needed to use its resources efficiently.
