The Labour Court rejected Packard Electric Ireland Limited's appeal and upheld a recommendation that workers receive three days' discretionary pay after a workplace injury. The decision was signed on 3 April 1995. The dispute concerned a worker who missed six days of work and whether three days' pay should be provided until social welfare payments began.

Packard Electric Ireland Limited argued that the payment was discretionary and had not been negotiated as part of an agreement. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union argued that a long-standing agreement and plant practice provided for the payment when workplace accidents occurred. The Labour Court concluded that the Rights Commissioner's recommendation was fair in this case and upheld it.
