In 1994, the Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s appeal and upheld the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that no compensation was merited. The decision was dated 20 December 1994. The claim concerned a worker’s lost weekend overtime after moving from temporary work to a permanent General Operative post at Wexford General Hospital. The union said the worker lost £55 per fortnight and should receive compensation on the basis offered to colleagues. The South Eastern Health Board said the permanent post included premium earnings on alternate weekends and was more advantageous overall.
