Labour Court leaves standing recommendation in Bus Eireann school bus driver dispute

The Labour Court left standing a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation in a dispute involving a part-time school bus driver in the Cavan area. Its decision was signed on 22 June 1994, after the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union appealed on the worker’s behalf. The dispute followed a change to the driver’s school routes in September 1993. He said he could not operate the revised route for serious personal reasons, was replaced and removed from the payroll. The union said he had received no pay since September and was willing to take another route. Bus Eireann said complaints about the original route had been investigated and that the revised arrangements carried the same pay. The Labour Court found no grounds to alter the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation, which stood.
