Labour Court leaves standing recommendation of no compensation for Deputy Nursing Officer

The Labour Court left standing a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that The Eastern Health Board pay no compensation to a Deputy Nursing Officer at St. Brendan’s Hospital. Its decision was signed on 3 June 1994, after the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union appealed on the worker’s behalf. The worker had shared the acting-up Nursing Officer role and allowance with another Deputy Nursing Officer. The union sought £300 for earnings it said the worker lost between July and December 1992, arguing the Board had changed the previous practice without consultation. The Board said sharing the role gave staff experience in higher posts and had worked satisfactorily for years. The Court found no grounds to alter the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation.
