In 1994, the Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s appeal and upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation concerning a casual worker’s employment status and related claims. The decision was dated 6 May 1994. The union argued that the worker, who had worked regularly for Cahill May Roberts since 1988, should have permanent, pensionable status. The recommendation included payment for six sick days and three additional days’ pay, favourable consideration for the next permanent pensionable post and first call on available hours. It rejected the Christmas bonus and lost-work claims and deferred the injury-leave claim pending supporting documents. The company said he was a casual worker and that it had implemented the recommendation.
