In 1993, the Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that Henry Dale Limited pay a worker £100 after finding his dismissal unfair. The Court’s decision was dated 14 June 1993. Henry Dale Limited said the worker continued claiming unemployment benefit after starting work and criticised his timekeeping and attitude. He said the company knew he was receiving benefit and allowed him to sign off later. He denied the other criticisms and said he had not been given a reason for his dismissal. The Rights Commissioner had described his evidence as clear and emphatic and the employer’s evidence as second-hand.
