Labour Court rejects union appeal over Quinnsworth worker’s reassignment

In 1993, the Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s appeal over a worker’s assignment after Quinnsworth reorganised its off-licence operation. The decision was dated 17 June 1993. Quinnsworth, trading as Power Supermarkets Limited, moved one kiosk worker to the new off-licence while another remained in the main store. The union argued that the worker should have been consulted and had a reasonable expectation of moving. Quinnsworth said staff could be assigned to different departments and that the worker’s pay and conditions were unchanged. The Court left standing the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that the claimant accept management’s apology about how the staffing change was implemented.
