In 1993, the Labour Court upheld a £1,200 recommendation for a worker’s holiday pay and certain car costs during his notice period. Both the worker and Shannon Distributors Limited appealed the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation; the Court’s decision was dated 14 June 1993. The worker said paid leave prevented him from travelling for work and claiming mileage. The company said mileage depended on business journeys and that it had paid him throughout his three-month notice period. The Court said the £1,200 covered holidays due and certain car costs he would have expected during notice. It said the parties should resolve the separate claim for outstanding expenses through direct discussion, as that issue had not been before the Rights Commissioner.
