In 1993, the Labour Court rejected a worker's appeal over his dismissal and upheld the Rights Commissioner's £250 recommendation as amended. The decision was signed on 22 January 1993. The worker had argued that the compensation was insufficient. Leisureplex Limited said he had abused a customer, used bad language despite warnings and failed to meet workplace standards. The Court found that the complained-of conduct was real and management had grounds to terminate his employment, but concluded that instant dismissal was inappropriate. It directed that the £250 be treated as payment in lieu of notice and paid immediately.
