Labour Court urges talks over worker’s lost chargehand rate

In 1993, the Labour Court left in place a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation concerning a worker’s lost chargehand rate at Schoepp Velours Ireland Limited. The decision was dated 23 March 1993. After a production reorganisation, the worker was moved to a lower-paid role. The Court urged the company and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union to negotiate lump-sum compensation for the lost pay differential in line with the recommendation. The union said transferred workers had previously kept their rates and warned that compensation could set a harmful precedent. The company said different rates for employees doing the same job could cause dissatisfaction.
