Labour Court rejects union appeal over Tankfreight driver's dismissal

In 1992, the Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's appeal over Tankfreight (Ireland) Limited's dismissal of a temporary driver, finding the company had acted responsibly. The decision was signed on 30 November 1992. The union argued that the difficult delivery site in Clashmore, Co Waterford, and the position of the fuel pumps made the manoeuvre difficult and the dismissal harsh. Tankfreight said the driver had received training but it could not be satisfied he was competent, and that it had a duty to avoid risks to people and property.
