Labour Court upholds worker’s place at number 14 on Waterford Foods seniority list

Labour Court ·

In 1992, the Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation placing a Waterford Foods PLC worker at number 14 on a seniority list. The decision was signed on 30 September 1992. The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union appealed, arguing the worker’s earlier service in the Quality Control Section gave him greater seniority than three workers placed ahead of him. Waterford Foods said section seniority began when he became a permanent employee. The Court found the Rights Commissioner had based the recommendation on the best available evidence, so it stood.
