The Labour Court decided that the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation on the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim against Industrial Yarns Bray Ltd. should stand. The decision was dated 9 September 1992. The union objected to managers taking watchkeeping duties normally carried out by supervisors during a one-week lay-off in April 1992, and sought compensation for lost wages. The company said supervisors were not employed as watchmen and it was more economical to use staff already required to report for duty. The Court considered both sides’ submissions and found the recommendation correct.
