Labour Court amends docker’s transport recommendation in B & I Line appeal

In 1991, the Labour Court amended a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation in a dispute between B & I Line P.L.C. and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over transport for a docker. Dated 31 July 1991, the decision gave the docker a choice: accept £800 in full and final settlement, with no further company liability for transport, or accept transport to his parents’ home in Ballyfermot or another reasonable address. The Union sought transport between the workplace and the docker’s home in Maynooth. The company said that when he moved there, he was told transport would not continue and that he accepted this. The Court found he knew transport to Maynooth would not be provided.
