In 1991, the Labour Court left in place a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation after the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union appealed over bank-holiday pay for press room staff at Sunday Newspapers Limited. The Court signed its decision on 4 April 1991. The union said staff had not been told that their £400 weekly rate included work on four designated bank holidays. The company said staff had agreed to the arrangement. The Court said past arrangements had been unstructured and urged the parties to put a formal agreement in place quickly, but found no grounds to alter the recommendation.
