The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that Aughinish Alumina Limited pay a worker five hours’ pay after he was overlooked for a call-in. The decision was signed on 18 October 1990. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the company should follow its voluntary roster. Aughinish Alumina Limited acknowledged the worker had been overlooked and said it offered alternative call-out work worth £158 plus overheads. The Court concluded the recommendation was correct in light of the call-out system and should stand.
