The Labour Court upheld a recommendation that 10 engineering operatives at Limerick Wagon Works receive eight hours’ pay for the Monday after a work dispute. The decision was dated 4 October 1990. Irish Rail argued the workers should not be paid for time during an unofficial stoppage and said they could have worked under protest. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said workers checked in on Monday, some worked, and a meeting resolved the dispute. The Court said confusion surrounding Monday’s events meant the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation should stand.
