The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation in a dispute between Bus Eireann and the National Busworkers' Union over replacement cover for illness and annual leave at the company’s Capwell Depot in Cork City. The recommendation was to stand for as long as management continued marking in crews on spare boards. The decision was signed on 9 January 1990. Bus Eireann argued that replacement crews were costly when spare-board staff had no specific rostered duties. The union said spare staff had traditionally covered sickness and annual leave vacancies.
