In 1989, the Labour Court upheld Peamount Hospital’s appeal against a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation for a 5% supervisory differential for a general operative. The decision was signed on 10 October 1989. The Federated Workers' Union Of Ireland said previous postholders had received an allowance and supported a smaller differential to settle the claim. The Hospital argued that the earlier 8% allowance was personal to its holder and that no additional supervisory duties justified a second-level allowance.
