In 1988, the Labour Court rejected Midland Butter And Bacon Company Limited's appeal and upheld a recommendation that £1,500 be paid to workers after the company changed its overtime arrangements. The decision was signed on 16 November 1988. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union said regular rostered overtime had been agreed and workers would lose earnings. The company denied any guarantee and said overtime earnings had risen by more than £1,000 in 1987/1988 compared with the previous year. The Court noted the change in practice and the workers' cooperation, while also noting there had been no losses in the period under review.
