In 1988, the Labour Court upheld a recommendation that Bijur Lubrication Limited offer a worker a goodwill settlement of £1,000 or the redundancy rebate, whichever was greater. The decision was signed on 7 January 1988. The worker had appealed the Rights Commissioner's recommendation after saying two women with the same service received higher redundancy payments. Bijur disputed that it had promised equal terms to later volunteers. The Labour Court found the recommendation was not unreasonable and said it should be implemented.
