The Labour Court upheld a £1,000 ex gratia severance recommendation for a worker at James Mc Mahon & Company Limited, on the company’s appeal. The decision was signed on 16 October 1987. The Marine Port and General Workers’ Union had claimed a redundancy payment under a 1986 productivity agreement, arguing that the worker’s service before a long illness should count. James Mc Mahon & Company Limited said he had not taken part in the post-rationalisation work practices and that it could not afford the claim. The Court found no grounds to alter the recommendation.
