The Labour Court upheld a £500 ex gratia severance recommendation for a worker at James Mc Mahon & Company Limited, after the company appealed. The decision was signed on 16 October 1987. The Marine Port and General Workers’ Union had sought a redundancy payment under a 1986 productivity agreement, arguing that the worker’s service before a long illness should count. James Mc Mahon & Company Limited said the worker had not taken part in the post-rationalisation work practices and disputed his entitlement to benefits. The Court found no grounds to alter the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation.
