The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that Irish Glass PLC pay three hours’ wages to each of two workers who reported for work before their shift was due to resume. The decision was signed on 3 September 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union (No 12 Branch) had appealed, seeking a full day’s pay. It argued that the workers reasonably expected individual instructions about when to return. Irish Glass PLC said the posted restart times made clear when each shift was due back. The Court found the original recommendation fair and reasonable and said it should be accepted.
