In 1986, the Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner's recommendation that PENNEYS LIMITED pay £100 each to staff affected by refurbishment work at its Dun Laoghaire premises. The decision was signed on 4 November 1986. The Irish Distributive and Administrative Trade Union (Idatu) sought £200 each, citing noise, congestion, draughts, dust and cold during the work. The company said most work took place outside normal working hours or in adjoining premises, and that cleaning staff helped keep disruption down. The Court found no adequate grounds to change the recommendation.
