Labour Court recommends Galway City Council pay three workers half their overtime losses

The Labour Court recommended that Galway City Council pay three workers under the standard public service loss-of-earnings formula, covering 50% of each worker’s loss from reduced regular rostered overtime in 2009 compared with 2008. The decision was signed on 16 October 2015. The four workers, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, had appealed a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation concerning compensation after Saturday overtime ceased. The Court found that Mr Ryan’s appeal was not well founded because he had resigned in 2013 and had no agreement allowing him to pursue the claim after leaving. For the other three, it found both sides equally responsible for how the matter progressed.
