The Labour Court allowed a general operative’s appeal and recommended that Camcas Ltd concede his union’s pay parity claim from 30 April 2014. The decision was dated 5 August 2015. The worker said he performed craft workers’ duties for less pay. Camcas Ltd argued that he was a general operative, was paid correctly and did not do craft work. The Court found that neither he nor the workers he compared himself with had formal craft qualifications, but they performed substantially the same work, with little overall difference. It found no justification for paying him less. The decision applied only to his circumstances and had no precedent value.
