The Labour Court recommended that Dublin City University pay a worker €7,000 in full and final settlement of a dispute over retirement at 65, in a decision dated 21 April 2015. The worker had challenged being prevented from remaining in employment after reaching 65. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that she had no compulsory retirement age under the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004. The university said her retirement date was set by law and that she was treated like colleagues who retired. The Court said the case had unique circumstances.
