The Labour Court varied a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation and recommended that Rosderra Irish Meats Ltd pay €2,000 in three equal phases to 19 workers seeking a higher grade after becoming permanent employees. The decision was dated 25 November 2014. The workers were represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, which argued they were entitled to the higher grade under a longstanding practice. Rosderra said they knew the practice had changed and were employed under different terms. The Court accepted that they had not been formally told at recruitment that the practice had changed, while finding their expectation differed from that of an earlier group. Payments were recommended for 1 December 2014, 1 May 2015 and 1 December 2015.
