Labour Court grants Bord Na Mona worker permanent position on appeal

The Labour Court ruled that a worker represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU) was entitled to a permanent position at Bord Na Mona. The decision was dated 18 November 2014. The worker appealed the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation, arguing that his qualifying service met the terms of the agreement and that seasonal outdoor staff had poor access to vacancy notices. Bord Na Mona said he did not meet the criteria and that its recruitment process was open. The Court found that, given the worker’s employment history, he met the criteria in the 2008 agreement between Bord Na Mona and SIPTU.
