The Labour Court disallowed Carrick on Suir Town Council’s appeal and affirmed a recommendation to rescind a traffic warden’s verbal warning. The decision was signed on 28 October 2014. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, had issued parking tickets to Irish Blood Transfusion Service vehicles parked contrary to town by-laws. She wrote on the tickets that she had issued them “under duress” and later received a verbal warning. The Rights Commissioner found that the same management personnel gave the instruction, held the disciplinary hearing and imposed the penalty, which was contrary to best practice and natural justice. The Council said it followed its procedures and that the warning was warranted. The Labour Court saw no basis to interfere with the recommendation.
