The Labour Court overturned a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation and awarded an anonymised worker €2,500 compensation for unfair dismissal. The decision was signed on 7 October 2014, following the worker’s appeal. The worker said he was dismissed while absent from work on illness grounds. Luigi Camilleri T/A Luigi's Bakery said it received no communication about his illness or intention to return and assumed he had left his role. The Court found he was dismissed without proper procedures. It noted his weekly pay was €320 and found €2,500 fair compensation.
