The Labour Court increased compensation for a worker unfairly dismissed by Laragh Property Holdings Limited T/A Staycity Serviced Apartments from €3,000 to €5,000. It upheld the finding of unfair dismissal on the company’s appeal in a decision dated 20 August 2014. The worker was employed as a night receptionist and porter from October 2012 until his dismissal in August 2013. He said management had not followed disciplinary procedures and that he was struggling to find work without a reference. The company said it had held pre-disciplinary counselling to improve his performance and argued the original award was disproportionate because he had contributed wholly to his dismissal.
