The Labour Court varied a Rights Commissioner recommendation on 22 February 2013 after 10 Rosderra Meats workers appealed their pay-grade claims. The earlier recommendation included €1,000 for each worker. The dispute followed the company’s change to a 22-year practice of upgrading workers after 12 months’ service. The Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim be conceded and that retrospective payments be made to each worker in three equal phases: 1 May 2013, 1 December 2013 and 1 May 2014. It said cost-cutting measures at the Roscrea plant addressed the issue going forward and varied the earlier recommendation accordingly.
