Labour Court rejects Irish Blood Transfusion Service worker’s pay progression appeal

The Labour Court disallowed an anonymous worker’s appeal over progression beyond the fifth point of her pay scale and affirmed the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation. The decision was signed on 1 May 2013. The Irish Blood Transfusion Service said a collective agreement required prescribed qualifications for progression beyond the pay bar. The worker’s union argued that comparable colleagues on the same scale were not subject to that bar. The Court found she did not hold the qualification required by the agreement, which made no exception to the rule.
