The Labour Court upheld a €4,000 payment to a Dublin Port Company worker who had performed plumbing duties while employed as a general operative. Its decision was signed on 5 October 2012. The worker’s union, the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, had appealed for higher compensation and a commitment to future plumbing work. The Court found the company’s assimilation policy had been appropriately applied and upheld the payment in full and final settlement. It also recommended that the company honour its commitment to offer plumbing tasks when its plumber was absent, if the worker had the necessary skills and his manager could release him.
