The Labour Court recommended that Bord Gais Eireann pay a worker €3,000 after finding he was disadvantaged in an interview process, but that the disadvantage did not cause him to miss the advertised post. The decision was signed on 17 October 2012. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that the worker’s experience made him the strongest candidate and that the successful candidate’s familiarity with the new interview process gave that candidate an advantage. Bord Gais Eireann said the worker received interview preparation guidance and that long service alone did not make someone the most suitable candidate. The Court recommended €3,000 compensation and that Bord Gais Eireann and the union address shortcomings in the interview process. It found the worker should not be appointed to the post.
