The Labour Court decided that Wexford Local Development should pay a worker severance equal to three weeks’ pay for each year of service, in addition to the statutory amount he had already received. The decision was dated 3 July 2012. The worker appealed a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation concerning his grievance and the ending of his employment. He challenged the decision to end his employment and said he would offset state termination payments against any back pay. Wexford Local Development said the decision reflected government cutbacks and was no reflection on him. The Court decided that the worker should be treated no differently from other staff made redundant by the employer and directed the severance payment.
