The Labour Court upheld a €5,000 compensation award to a tailor who appealed the amount recommended after his dismissal by Suits Distributors Ireland Limited. The decision was dated 27 June 2012. The worker said he was dismissed after asking for overtime pay and was not given a disciplinary meeting or investigation. The employer said repeated warnings and his conduct towards staff justified the dismissal. The Court agreed that the dismissal did not follow the principles of natural justice and fair procedures. It also found that the worker’s behaviour and attitude towards his employer and colleagues had significantly contributed to his dismissal. The Court upheld the Rights Commissioner’s €5,000 compensation award.
