The Labour Court reduced a €5,000 recommendation to €1,017.67 on Limerick City Council’s appeal, retaining the amount the council accepted was due after a foreman joined Paypath. The decision was signed on 23 April 2012. The worker had sought pay increases withheld between 2006 and 2010 while he declined to use Paypath, the council’s electronic salary payment system. The council said participation was required under the relevant pay agreements. The Court found the worker had knowingly declined Paypath and had not applied for an exemption, accepted that the council acted reasonably, and removed the compensation above €1,017.67.
