The Labour Court upheld a recommendation that Tesco Ireland Limited compensate a worker for earnings lost after restructuring at its Castlebar store. Tesco’s appeal failed. The decision was dated 21 March 2012. The worker had been a Section Manager and was placed in a lower-paid Team Leader role after the store’s restructuring. Tesco argued that compensation was available only during the first phase. The Court found the worker had been told compensation would apply and upheld the recommendation for compensation of one and a half times his annual earnings loss.
