Labour Court rejects worker’s appeal over academic contract at St Vincent’s

The Labour Court disallowed a worker’s appeal over a claim for an academic contract and backdated pay at St Vincent’s University Hospital, affirming the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation. The decision was signed on 30 November 2011. The worker sought an academic contract and remuneration dating back to 2002, saying his workload had increased. The hospital argued the claim would increase costs and was barred under the Public Service Agreement 2010–2014. The Court found the claim was not minor and that referring it to the Court during the agreement’s term counted as processing it. It said it had no basis to allow the appeal.
